"It seems to me, that just about every performer, at some point in their career, there are stories of them being gay," says Sarah McLachlan of the rumor that has buzzed around her name for years. "But I don't know, I probably played into it, too. I have a lot of gay friends, and if the general public sees me hanging out at a lesbian bar - which I've been known to do - then rumors will fly."
Myth?
In February 1997, McLachlan's lesbian fable came to an end when she clandestinely wed Ash Sood, the drummer in her band. "It was pretty much the hardest secret I've ever had to keep," she says of the event, which took place in Jamaica. "We planned it for two months and my parents didn't even know...but it was fantastic."
Heterosexual Shangri-la aside, McLachlan says she's wistful to see her faux lesbian status go, admitting she took pleasure in the speculation surrounding her orientation. "I liked it," she says with a laugh that is somehow both mischievous and innocent. "It was fun!"

Ash & SarahMany have defended Sarah's sexual preferences. We snigger when we hear folks defend, "Of course she's not gay - she's married and has expressed wanting to start a family - what do YOU think?!" ...She openly admits to playing with people's heads "because it was fun!"
A marriage doesn't really confirm hetero status. Come on Sarah, it's OK to admit to your bisexual tendancies - who cares?

Now that you've paid off your $140,000 debt, cut your hair and became mainstream, you can do whatever you want!We have followed Sarah's music journey since 1993 - from "Touch" and "Solace" to her current work. We have seen her in concert and seen many of her videos. We still enjoy her music, but are no longer avid fans. We remember the innocence, the mystical, the sincere & shy Sarah. After she finally hit mainstream (Fumbling Towards Ecstasy) she married her drummer, cut her hair and toured to the max. As she encountered crazies, wore herself out on tour, and became a hot media item, it seemed like she had changed - lost her innocence and became hardened. It happens.

Canadian musicians Sarah McLachlan, Bryan Adams, Jann Arden, Barenaked Ladies, and Chantal Kreviazuk are teaming up for a concert benefitting the BC Cancer Foundation.
The event will take place October 10 at General Motors Place in Vancouver, B.C.
Each artist has donated 100 percent of their time and fees to the project, which is aimed at raising $1 million.
All facilities and promotional costs will be donated as well, with 100 percent of the proceeds to go to the BC Cancer Foundation's new research facility, slated to open in 2004. Ticketmaster is even rebating all profit from their ticket service charges to the BC Cancer foundations.
"Cancer affects all of us so deeply, so personally," McLachlan said. "No one has been untouched by this horrible disease. It cuts through gender and age, striking us wherever we live.
"I hope the community will support us in making the dream of building a leading-edge cancer research facility in Vancouver a realty."
All artists on the lineup have been directly affected by cancer - either through losing a close friend, family member, or suffering personally themselves.
For Kevin Hearn of the Barenaked Ladies, cancer hits especially close to home. He was diagnosed with leukemia in 1999 and has been in remission since 2001.
"No matter where the research is done, it benefits all cancer victims and their families," Hearn said. "I am living proof that thanks to research, there is hope and progress in fighting cancer."
Event organizer Shane Bourbonnais of Clear Channel Entertainment spearheaded this event in honor of his late wife Michele. It was her one-and-a-half year-long fight against cervical cancer that made Bourbonnais aware of the need for a research facility. Michele passed away October 10, 2001.

It's a Girl for Sarah McLachlan
New CD to follow in November

April 11, 2002 - Sarah McLachlan gave birth to a baby girl, India Ann Sushil Sood, on Saturday, April 6th, in Vancouver. The child is her and husband/drummer Ashwin Sood's first.
McLachlan announced her intentions to start a family shortly after her marriage to Sood in 1997. Since the last Lilith Fair -- the ambitious touring festival of female artists founded by McLachlan -- in 1999, she has adopted a more leisurely pace. Her last studio album, Surfacing, was released in 1997, followed by the live Mirrorball and Remixed, featuring reworkings of her tracks by the likes of William Orbit, BT and DJ Tiesto. Her only new studio work in recent years was a cover of the Beatles' "Blackbird" for inclusion on this year's I Am Sam soundtrack. All that will change this fall, however, as McLachlan hopes to release her next album in November. According to manager Terry McBride -- whose wife Cathy also gave birth to their first baby, Mira, a few weeks ago -- McLachlan has been working on the album up until two weeks ago. Approximately ten tracks have been written, and they are in various stages of recording.
"Let's just say that it's refreshing to hear her voice again," McBride says. "It has a quality all its own, and you don't know how much you have missed it until you hear it again."
