comedy that answers the question "What would happen if your wife
said yes to a menage-a-trois...and loved it! ...Marty Barnes gets
more than he wishes for when he asks his wife to join him in a menage-a-trois.
She loves it and he has created a Sex Monster." A neurotic L.A. building contractor (Mike Binder in his best Woody Allen imitation) pushes his wife (Mariel Hemingway) into entering into a three way sexual relationship. This movie had lots of laughs, sexy (but mostly intimated) sex between women and was not a mindless bore. If you were a woman watching this movie, you'd see the humor in it. (well okay, if you were bi or lesbian it would seem more true to life and amusing). If you were a man, you would come face to face with the reality of a male mis-concept ~ that women together would be clueless without a man present during sex. Men will see their hopes dashed as they watch poor Marty, the husband seeking the hetero male fantasy, lose out when it comes to attempting to play mainstage sex scenes with two women. Well obviously, it wasn't a hit whatsoever - if it was produced in 1999 and aired on Cinemax the same year. Still, it was entertaining and [we thought] hilarious. The one thing we didn't like about the movie is the character Marty, being played by Mike Binder. This is similar to the movie "The Muse," where writer/director Albert Brooks played the leading male role [across from leading ladies, Andie MacDowell and Sharon Stone] as well. Both writers were kind of nerdie boys that placed themselves across from hot leading women who simply don't "click" as a portrayed couple. Ah well, I guess if you write and produce it, you get to try to act in it as well.
We suggest this film for anyone looking for a good chuckle - and sexy, funny women.
We loved this bisexual comedy. We laughed aloud; it was hilarious.
Mariel Hemingway was superb in this role.
